How to Make a Script Production Board : Filling Out Breakdown Pages for Production Boards

Hi, Chris Cobb for Expert Village. So, come
look over my shoulder. Remember this is our script page that we just color coded and we
have the eighth of a page broken out and things like that. And this is the breakdown sheet
I’m going to transfer this information to. So, all of this here will end up on here.
So the first thing is of course, the ‘scene number. This is scene one, ‘script page’,
one, ‘page count’, two-eights. Then over here of course it asks for ‘sheet’, and this is
the breakdown page one so sheet one. And this is, on the script’ exterior, night’. So e,
n. Then over here it says ‘scene description’, and I’m going to say, ‘it’s Seattle, cabs splash by’. I didn’t invent that, I took
it right out of the script. That helps everybody on the set when they see the production schedule
and the production board that creates, that you create the production schedule from. That
helps them all remember that scene if you highlight little moments in the script rather
than kind of rewriting it for them. The location, ‘Tini Biggs Bar’. ‘Cast members’, none. ‘Background
actors’, well, there’s got to be somebody in those cabs, right? So we go, ‘drivers,
passengers, bar hoppers’. ‘Stunts’, I don’t see any. ‘Vehicles,’ cabs. And then, let’s
just try to fly through here. The one thing I’m going to make a note of, and it’s usually
a special effect, is it’s ‘rain’. So even if it is raining in Seattle because it could
very well be, I’m going to write it down here because if it’s not, we may have to have rain
effects available. So I’ll keep going, come on back when you’ve broken down your script
as well.

  1. love it for someone whos never been to film school, but need to know, because working on a film. Wish there was a bit more, but this was so helpful. It would have been easier if all the videos were numbered.

  2. Thanks Chris Cobb. I'm shooting my first short film (I come from a cable background). Your tutorials have been hugely valuable!

  3. Someone somehow got a hold of me to ask about the order of these old videos from a decade ago. I actually didn't know they were still up!
