Calligraphy Punctuation & Spacing : Basic Calligraphy Tips

To begin I’m going to go over just some basics,
which are, I’m using a pen that I’m dipping into the ink, I’m wiping the edge of the pen
on the rim of the ink bottle, and then I’m taking the first stroke to unload the extra
ink in the pen. As I make marks, as I write letters, I’m going to be fitting them in between
guidelines, and the guidelines are established here. I’m working with a 5 pen width lower
case height, and a 3 pen width center height, and that’s measured by using the pen as its
own sort of ruler; 1,2,3,4,5; and 1,2,3; and that’s going to establish the place where
I fit the letters into this space, and also the punctuation marks as you will see as we
go along. So it’s very helpful to grid your paper with a straight edge and a ruler. And
we can get started.
